I do love the play for that. And you're so right, it was partly a personality clash. Harry didn't have similar issues with James and Lily, and even said as much. Fun to speculate on this sort of thing.Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-25880664699655579482017-02-23T00:12:51.729+11:002017-02-23T00:12:51.729+11:00What a great blog post!! And parents DO relate differently to their individual children - it's only natural. I think his heart, and his willingness to humble himself and face those blind spots, speaks volumes for him in the end. And it's certainly true that all of us, including people with far more stable role models than Harry's, have our mistakes along the parenting path. (Vernon Dursley was the poor fellow's biggest example, after all, which shows he made an amazing improvement.) I think, when we first become parents we want to be perfect at it, but it doesn't take before we realise that we make mistakes & do things we regret. In the series, Harry's Dad, James, is shown at times, not always to be the hero (in his treatment of Snape, for instance). And given that Harry didn't have the experience of a loving Dad to fall back on, maybe he did a pretty good job. Of course, from the perspective of a teen - you do often expect your parent to be picture perfect, expectations that are hard, if not impossible, to live up to. After all, parents are just human too.
