The people who haven't read the book seem to think it's great, but those who have think it falls short. I did enjoy the meandering of the footnotes and satiric wit overall. Yet to watch the series but I don't see how this could be replicated on screen....it might have a brilliance of its own though.inkless.snehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12366062972432478669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-29386950334194572432018-01-31T14:54:08.054+11:002018-01-31T14:54:08.054+11:00Hi Jaymi, neither did I before I started. Not often we find a novel with such a combination of historical fiction and fantasy. It's a huge commitment, but I know you're not the reader to be faxed by that 😂Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-40254528316509595102018-01-31T14:50:12.985+11:002018-01-31T14:50:12.985+11:00This comment has been removed by the author.Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-45517581890571377952018-01-31T11:26:19.560+11:002018-01-31T11:26:19.560+11:00I had very little idea what this book was about, i...I had very little idea what this book was about, it sounds absolutely amazing! It sounds like it combines a lot of the things I like, I especially like the fact that Norrell and Strange seem to be at odds with each other for personality. I'll have to jot it down on my tbr. Thanks for the lovely review! Jaymihttp://suspectnarglesblog.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-35106385517837873132018-01-30T22:06:35.088+11:002018-01-30T22:06:35.088+11:00Hi Karen, I've heard of the TV series and want...Hi Karen, I've heard of the TV series and want to look it up, but my head is still a bit too full of the characters the way I've imagined them. And yes, I agree some of those footnotes are laugh out loud funny, and worth stories of their own.I take it most editions have the Portia Rosenberg illustrations. They suit the story so well.Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-75680636063633503662018-01-30T20:07:50.143+11:002018-01-30T20:07:50.143+11:00I loved this book, especially the footnotes -- I t...I loved this book, especially the footnotes -- I thought some of them were really funny. I also loved the illustrations. There was a tv adaptation a couple of years ago. I started watching but somehow it wasn't nearly as engaging as the book and I never finished. I should give it another try. Karen K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13483190930383406559noreply@blogger.com
