He's so right! I'm glad so many more are coming to light, but can't believe some of the ones I missed. Yes, I know most rental properties don't allow pets, let alone the larger varieties of dogs that you're fond of :) You must miss them when you leave.
Thanks for reminding me about those big, cool movie dogs. Beethoven was a hit in our family, and K9 rings a bell too. There was also Marley and Me, with Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, which I forgot until now. I'm sure we could think of a few stories with your favourite Newfoundlands if we tried. I once owned a book about a dog named Algonquin when I was a kid. That might be worth looking up again. For a number of years I had dogs as pets and now have what I call 'Clayton' pets' which I get to look after when I house sit for friends. Since I rent now I'm not permitted to have a pet so these are my part time pets.
There is certainly a wonderful array of dogs mentioned in your blog and I can't think of any more offhand from books to add but I have fond memories of some movies, DVDs of dogs who have made me laugh, cry, and generally enjoy their antics. My favourite would probably have to be Beethoven (big slobbery St Bernard) and the only other one I can think of at the moment was a German Shephard police dog in the movie K9 who ate chilli and beans and wove his way eventually into the heart of a hard nose police officer after he was assigned K9 as a partner because he couldn't get on with a human partner. I'm more partial to the bigger breeds of dogs having been owned by two Newfoundlands (at the same time) in the 80s/90s. Best dogs on the planet in my estimation although Golden Retrievers are gorgeous as well. And then there's German Shepherds, Labradors, Pyrenean Mountain dogs, mastiffs and oh the list goes on and on. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.Lesley Turnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03813827759486341613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-24201665065957665082017-01-09T10:14:41.025+11:002017-01-09T10:14:41.025+11:00Thanks Jenny, I never realised that. Perhaps I should change that to Australasian dogs, from Australia and NZ. Unlike Pavlova or the flat white there's no doubt about it's Kiwi origins. Jeanette O'Haganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11057798704247611224noreply@blogger.com
