It took me a while to get into it the first time I read it but I find it very moving.Jeanette Grant-Thomsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07691677119939194892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-82150938733682476422017-07-18T18:01:53.237+10:002017-07-18T18:01:53.237+10:00Hi Jeanette, I liked it a lot. Yes, she treats her characters with such love and respect.Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-84765703429955020772017-07-18T15:37:15.032+10:002017-07-18T15:37:15.032+10:00Thanks for a good review, Paula. They all shed more light on one another. I love the fact that Marilynne Robinson loves and respects her characters, and invests her prose with a gentleness and kindness.Jeanette Grant-Thomsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07691677119939194892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-49300161130096608732017-07-17T10:25:36.113+10:002017-07-17T10:25:36.113+10:00Hi Jenny, it was a pleasant surprise to me to look...Hi Jenny, it was a pleasant surprise to me to look on Goodreads and see that there are other stories in the series. While reading, I'd assumed Gilead was a stand alone novel. Yes, I believe Lila is a prequel, and there's also Home, about the Boughton family. I want to read them all 😀Paula Vincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02079952414990463270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8533677737021490096.post-85547754602018143112017-07-17T09:31:36.042+10:002017-07-17T09:31:36.042+10:00Hi Paula - I really must read this one. And while I found the stream of consciousness style dragged at times (especially in the beginning) the prose was beautiful and a fascinating and moving story of John Ames younger wife.
